Our Campus
A World-Class Campus in Gauteng Province, South Africa
The Academy plans to develop a beautiful campus and world class facilities in Gauteng, South Africa. South Africa is an ideal location for the Academy because of its economic and political stability, excellent infrastructure, and ease of transport to and from the other nations in Africa. Gauteng province, home to Johannesburg and Pretoria, is the cosmopolitan hub of South Africa. It is fast becoming a “gathering place” for well-educated Africans from all over the continent.
Our Vision for the Academy’s Facilities
The Academy aims for its students, faculty and staff to feel proud of their surroundings and to enjoy living and learning in them. Buildings will have large windows and skylights to allow for significant natural lighting. The grounds will be inviting, with plenty of space for students to relax and play.
Teaching facilities
The Academy’s classrooms will be designed to be functional. Each class will be equipped with comfortable seating for students and will have the multimedia facilities (overhead projectors, whiteboards, TV, video, etc.) required for effective teaching. With average class sizes of 10-15 students, our classrooms will be intimate. A collaborative learning style will be used at the Academy, where students will challenge each other and will facilitate each other’s learning. Our teaching facilities will therefore enable this seminar-style, collaborative learning to take place. Our vision is that most of the classrooms will feel like a “conference room” whereby students will engage in discussions around a large table for most of their classes.
Sports facilities
Our sports facilities will allow for a well-rounded athletic program for our students. For example, students will be able to participate in soccer, tennis, squash, swimming, basketball, volleyball, cross-country, track and field, weightlifting, and archery, The role of sports at the Academy is to provide an avenue for stress release and recreation, enabling our students to lead a balanced, well-rounded life. The Academy does not aim to train professional athletes, and sports while encouraged, is not the core focus of the school.
Boarding facilities
Boys and Girls will have separate boarding facilities, which will be comfortable. In keeping with our value of humility, we do not believe in providing excessively luxurious accommodation for our students. Each student will share a room with 2 or 3 others. Rooms will be fairly spacious and comfortably furnished, with 1 single bed, wardrobe, desk, and chair per student. Each room will be networked, allowing students to access the intranet and Internet from the comfort of their rooms. Each room will have a phone. There will be shared bathrooms and toilets on each floor. There will be comfortable lounges in each residential house, where residents can watch TV, play table tennis, and relax. There will also be one or two quiet study rooms in each house. Students will be responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of their own rooms, while common lounges and bathrooms will be cleaned on a daily basis by staff. Each boarding house will have faculty advisors that will supervise the house. Initially one large communal dining facility will serve 3 meals a day to all students on campus. As the school reaches its maximum size, another, smaller cafeteria/coffee shop will be built on campus.
Technology and IT
In the 21st century, knowledge of technology is key to competing on a global scale. The Academy will provide its students with the most up-to-date computer and science technology, preparing them to compete effectively once they enter the world’s top universities. The school will have well-equipped science laboratories, access to online classes that allow students to interact with their peers from around the world, and state-of-the-art computer laboratories that support multimedia language learning.
